There’s nothing more annoying than running out of battery when you need it the most. This is probably something you’ve noticed on your older devices. So what steps can you take to maintain the battery life of your li-ion powered devices?
First things first, batteries do not like heat. If your laptop is constantly running hot, then this is likely affecting the health of the battery. In the picture below from batteryuniversity.com, you can see how high temperatures over time can drastically reduce the health of your battery.
If you are constantly experiencing issues with temperature on your laptop, you might want to clean out the fans on your laptop. Having good airflow can greatly improve the thermal performance of your laptop. Also, try avoiding using the laptop on fabric surfaces like your couch, lap, or bed, as this can also block the fans to your laptop.
Another important thing to keep in mind is how to properly store your lithium-ion battery products. As shown in the picture above, it is not just temperature that affects the health of your battery, but also what level of charge it is stored at. So if you are going to store your battery products for extended periods, we recommend topping it up every 3 to 4 months and storing it in a cool, dry environment.
